About Our Campground

We take great pride in offering a unique and captivating experience.  The Lucky Strike is a former commercial mine, operating today as a recreational mine.  We are a family-friendly campground, located on the serene Second Broad River.  We strive to create a memorable experience for each of our visitors, offering a chance to step back in time to the days of yesteryear.  We are open all year round except Christmas Day.

Our campground features full hookups including electric, water, and sewer.  A dump station is available for campsites that have only water and electricity.  We have a primitive area located between the river and the pond. This area does not have water, electricity, or sewer but is situated very close to the shower house.

We have a retail gift shop that has many beautiful items!  Whether you are looking for gemstones, jewelry, t-shirts, or other trinkets, our gift shop has a perfect souvenir to bring home with you.

The Lucky Strike Campground has a welcoming environment with many friendly faces.  The Lucky Strike House Band plays music on Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm.  It is a time when friends come together and have fun making music. If you enjoy taking a step back in time and listening to some good old mountain music, we hope you will join us.

Campers staying with us can take advantage of gold panning or gem screening in the river at no extra charge.  Bring your gold pan or purchase one from us and test your luck at finding some gold right out of the river.  Seeing gold in your pan is a thrilling moment everyone should experience.  Did you know, that gold fever is a real thing? Once you get it, there is no cure so pan carefully!

The Lucky Strike Campground is an excellent place for families to visit.  If you want to relax and enjoy a slower pace of life, The Lucky Strike Campground is the place for you.  Come and enjoy a tranquil day of mining for gold in the Second Broad River or simply relax at the Miner’s Diner with a mouthwatering meal and a refreshing drink.  Embrace the great outdoors and create memorable experiences at the Lucky Strike Campground.  Here, everyone is family!

Meet the Owners of The Lucky Strike

Doug & Elizabeth McCormick are very family-oriented people and their loving, close-knit family is their inheritance. However, Doug & Elizabeth take pride in the friendships they've fostered with many gold-panning guests and campers. Have you ever heard the saying, “(that person) has never met a stranger”?  That phrase rings true when talking about Doug and Liz McCormick. If you have visited The Lucky Strike Campground and met them, you'll understand what we're talking about.

The Lucky Strike Gold and Gem Mine began in 1991.  Doug and Liz enjoyed gold prospecting and decided to open their property to the public so others could try their hand at prospecting for gold.  The McCormick family has formed close friendships with campers and gold panning guests over the years as they've visited The Lucky Strike.  These relationships have culminated into memorable years of front porch music at The Miner’s Diner, sharing pot-luck meals, playing cards, bingo games, and more merriment inside of the Lucky Strike Clubhouse.

“Making memories with friends and family is a special part of our life.  We have invested many years in teaching our children and grandchildren to love, respect, and be kind to others but most of all to put God first in their life.  We are blessed to have our children and their families stepping up and being a part of this business that began 32 years ago.”
